sailing speed wind
What is the best design sails for a small model boat with wind blowing in at right angles? speed and stability?

Hi just conducting an experiment. what is the best design sails to put on a given model boat hull for maximum speed and stability. the wind in the sails will be blowing straight in at right angles. Some advice on a keel and rudder would be helpful too. The boat only needs to cover a distance of 2 metres but in minimal time. I’m not a sailor at all so any help by anyone with experience in sailing or marine engineering would be appreciated. Thanks

Think: gaff-rigged sails. They give the most drive for the buck, and still keep your rig short. On a beam reach, you’ll be screaming (your model, I mean).

As far as your keel and rudder goes: make them as deep as the rules allow, and then you’ll sail as straight as possible over those 2M.
